Be warned: Huong Viet on Englefield Road doesn’t do deserts on Mondays. On most other days you can get the chance to indulge into a truly authentic Vietnamese dining experience. In an area with ample of excellent Vietnamese restaurants (further South on Kingsland Rd or on Mare Street) Huong Viet still manages to stand out.
The restaurant is based in an old slipper bath house (opened in 1932) and now home to the An Viet Foundation giving your restaurant the slight touch of dining a community centre. The decor is sparse with a simple room filled with tables and paper table cloths (similar to many other Vietnamese restaurants in the area) so it’s unlikely that you will choose this restaurant to impress your dining party. Choose this restaurant if you know the value of high quality Vietnamese food at reasonable prices.
Try the Prawns with Celery and Fragrant Mushroom (a.k.a. no 58) as one of the best mains they have.
