Check out the Dulwich Picture Gallery
A plan by: David
Your Dulwich Picture Gallery was built by Sir John Soane as England's first purpose-built public art gallery and opened in 1817. Rich in history it is but its outlook is very much contemporary. Whilst it houses houses a small but select collection of European old master paintings mostly of the 17th and 18th centuries, the temporary exhibitions showcase some of the finest 20th century sculpture and paintings. And all of this a couple of miles South from the typical tourist infused hussle and bussle of the Tates and National Gallery. The Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday every week and admission is ?5.
