Visit the heroes of self-sacrifice at Postman's Park
Postman's park is an old burial ground in the heart of the City of London, near St.Pauls. A shortage of space for burials meant that corpses were often laid on the ground and covered over with soil instead of being buried, and thus Postman's Park is significantly elevated. Today the park is a true oasis of calm in the busy centre and best known as the location of the Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice also known as the Wall of Heroes, a series of beautiful memorial plaques to commemorate “heroic men and women” who died whilst helping others. The memorial was created by G.F. (George Frederic) Watts, a painter and social radical in 1905.
