Have a bohemian coffee at the Candid Arts Cafe, Angel
Angel might seem like just about the least bohemian place in London these days, with its giant shopping centre, new office blocks and constant beeping traffic. But believe it or not, amidst the noise and haste, there is an oasis. Nip down Torrens St to find the Candid Arts Cafe. Run by the Candid Arts Trust which operates the galleries in the same building, it’s a slice of scruffy, cosy charm. The ever-changing Mediterranean-themed menu features reasonably priced (?5-10 for main courses) dishes like Tortellini in tomato, mushroom & ricotta sauce and Brie, pepper & mushroom quiche, and as well as coffee there’s a wide range of herbal and normal teas. There’ll normally be a college degree show in the galleries upstairs to peruse afterwards, or if it’s sunny you could just recline in the shaded courtyard. Get there from Angel tube, or via the slew of buses that go there, including the (big breath) 4, 43, 19, 153, 476, 341, 38, 56, 394, 30, 205, and 214.
