It might sound like a whippet-filled flat-capped boozer for miners, but in the true style of the New East End, BGWMC is in fact a veritable Aladdin’s cave of quirky nights out. It’s home to beloved dress-up-and-dance nights like Grind-a-Go-Go, quirky gay nights like Cockabilly, and risqué Cabaret nights like the David Lynch-themed Double RR club or burlesque competitions like the Tournament of Tease, which comes in both male and female varieties.
Most nights are on till 2pm, and it’s wise to get there before 10 to be sure of getting in, but it’s never too expensive and neither are the drinks. But dress up, and we don’t mean in your snazziest clubbing clothes – think vintage.
It’s near Bethnal Green tube and not far from Liverpool St, either; and on or near the route of the 8, 388, 55,48 and 26 buses.
